The 1994 film pulp fiction directed by Quinten Tarantino is considered to be one of the top 100 films of all time. It does this not because of the amazing cinematography that other films have. It does this for the story, the dialogue, and the characters. It's kind of hard to think this would be an issue with such a star studded cast for a movie. During this 2 hour 34 minute film we follow 3 basic stories. Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Marsellus Wallace's (Ving Rahmes) wife, The Gold Watch, and The Bonnie Situation. Each are 3 separate stories all in the same time period with same people. The first we see is Vincent Vega and Marsellus Wallace's wife. It follows the story of Vincent Vega taking Marsellus Wallace's wife Mia (Uma Thurman) out for a good time while he's out of town. We knew about this from the opening scene where we learn of our 2 main protagonists Vincent and Jules (Samuel L. Jackson). We also learn that these guys are Hitmen and are not to be messed with. Anyways, the second story follows Buch (Bruce Willis) and Marsellus Wallace. We were first introduced to Buch in the previous stories transition taking money from Wallace to throw the fight. The beginning of this story starts with Buch as a young child learning the importance of his late fathers gold watch. This whole dialogue between Buch and Captain Koons about this gold watch along with the title of this story tells us the importance this gold watch plays. So, this story has Buch running because he didn't throw the fight like Marsellus wanted him to. The final story is the Bonnie situation.  It brings the story back to Vincent and Jules and continues the story from the beginning of the movie.

As you watch this movie some things just happen that don't make sense. Somethings you feel like you missed somewhere along the movie. That's normal for people first time seeing this movie. That's because these stories are out of order. As you watch the movie you make connections to things before. This kind of storytelling had never really been used before at the time and if it did it flopped hard. Quinten Tarantino used this form of storytelling to perfection. If this movie had been following a linear story line it might not have been as successful as it turned out to be. It's to make sense of it at first but as you go along you see the brilliance of Tarantino.

Now the storytelling is great but you can't get that without having amazing characters. It wouldn't be a bold take to say that the characters and the dialogue  carry this movie into the top 100 films. It's funny because you have guys murdering and taking drugs while in between they talk about burgers in France. It's like me riding to school while listening to songs about murder, drugs, and sex. In a story with possibly the least relatable people you almost can relate to them.. You start to get attached and feel for these people even though they are doing some horrible stuff. The true form of Anti Heroes you could say. If you are big into movies and haven't seen Pulp Fiction you're doing something wrong. It keeps the viewers entertained with action, suspense, comedy, all you can want with storytelling and dialogue that leaves a real message/impact behind it all. There's a reason it's considered a top 100 film and it probably has entered the list of my favorite movies of all time.
